Training

Why Employee Development and Training?

Employee development is almost universally recognized as a strategic tool for an organization's continuing growth, productivity and ability to retain valuable employees.

There are multiple reasons to support emphasis on employee development and training:

  • Remaining competitive. Organizations are competing not only for market share but also for employees. Employees want to work for an employer that will upgrade their skills to keep them competitive with peers from other companies.
  • Dealing with ongoing skill shortages.  Employers are experiencing difficulty filling mission-critical positions. Organizations are turning to apprentice programs, entry-level job training programs, and community partnerships to rebuild the talent pipeline.
  • Adapting to changing business structures.  Leaner, flatter, continuously evolving organizations need employee development to ensure engagement and commitment.  By providing creative development, executives signal that they value employees.
  • Increasing employee productivity.  Employees who receive training and educational opportunities are more productive.
  • Reducing turnover.  Research has shown that employee training reduces turnover and absenteeism.
  • Aligning employee development with the organization's needs. Employers should let strategic needs drive development.

With organizations spending more on learning than ever before, it’s important to ensure learners retain the knowledge gained from the training offered. The rate of forgetting is dependent on a number of factors; however, studies show that employees can forget as much as 50% - 80% when learning is not reinforced. HCI seeks to reduce the “forgetting” factor by leveraging a multi-faceted approach based on successful adult learning models. In particular, HCI training is accomplished through a combination of lecture, exercises, role plays, games, assessments, and skill checks.
